Espai 1714

Olesa is an Espai 1714 site. These are sites included on Route 1714, a proposed tourist and cultural route that passes by the most significant monuments, towns and sites of the War of the Spanish Succession in Catalonia.

The Espai 1714 sites are historic sites of major episodes in the conflict, where visitors can see the traces of history and learn more about what happened from the informational panels posted at each location. In Olesa, the panel is located in the Plaça de les Fonts, with information on the two war councils held in the town by the army of Habsburg loyalists in the summer of 1714 in their attempt to break the Siege of Barcelona. Tourists can also visit the “Memorial 158” (a commemorative monument to the 158 Habsburg loyalists who died in the town) and the Clock Tower (a former prison and the last vestige of the Olesa Castle).

OLESA TOURISM

Olesa de Montserrat is a municipality rich in culture and tradition, located in the foothills of the mountain of Montserrat. Olesa de Montserrat is located in the north of the comarca (county) of Baix Llobregat, in the subcomarca of Montserratí, halfway between Barcelona and the Montserrat Monastery. The natural area of the municipality, with its beautiful and magnificent scenery, is bounded by the Llobregat river and the mountain chains of Sant Salvador de les Espases and Puigventós. Olesa’s roots are markedly agricultural; it is noted in particular for its cultivation of olives of the palomar or Olesan variety, native to the region, from which the famous Olesan oil is extracted.
