The bread of La Passió
The bread that Jesus shares with his apostles at the Last Supper in La Passió is the product of a very specific commission by Joan Povill i Adserà, who requested a loaf of bread of a special size and characteristics from the Forn de Cal Serra bakery. After some trial and error, he got what he wanted: a round and almost flat loaf of bread. This is the same bread which, season after season, sits on the table of the Last Supper in La Passió.
The coca pastry in the children’s scene
Also served by the Forn de Cal Serra, every single Sunday. It has just the right dimensions for the scene and is, without doubt, a breakfast that is the favorite of the children in La Passió.
Recipe for the coca pastry for La Passió
Ingredients:
Flour, eggs, sugar, salt, milk, butter, oil, water, yeast and vanilla
Preparation:
Mix all the ingredients to make the dough, which you have to knead for ten minutes and let stand for ten more minutes. Break it into 150-gram pieces, knead them a little and let them stand for five minutes. Then flatten them with your hands and leave them to ferment for two hours. You can then coat the coca pastries with olive oil, add sugar and put them in the oven at 220 ºC.
