One of the most important and representative elements of the municipality, the Clock Tower is listed as a cultural feature of national interest. It has the hallmarks of a defense tower, and in medieval times it was connected to a castle-type construction.
It is located in the Plaça Nova, in the old town center, next to the parish church. Its current appearance and height are the product of a reconstruction in the early 16th century. It has a square-shaped base and the walls are sloped in the form of a truncated pyramid, very similar at the base and almost imperceptible at the top. The top of the tower is crowned by a short, octagonal structure with a wrought iron structure that houses the two bells of the municipal clock. It housed the Olesa prison from the 18th to the early 20th century.
Although it is now the municipal clock tower, it is often confused with the bell tower of the church, which was destroyed during the Spanish Civil War. Since then, the church bell has been housed in a small gable just on top of the rectory building.
Olesa de Montserrat is a municipality rich in culture and tradition, located in the foothills of the mountain of Montserrat. Olesa de Montserrat is located in the north of the comarca (county) of Baix Llobregat, in the subcomarca of Montserratí, halfway between Barcelona and the Montserrat Monastery. The natural area of the municipality, with its beautiful and magnificent scenery, is bounded by the Llobregat river and the mountain chains of Sant Salvador de les Espases and Puigventós. Olesa’s roots are markedly agricultural; it is noted in particular for its cultivation of olives of the palomar or Olesan variety, native to the region, from which the famous Olesan oil is extracted.
